This is to inform our esteemed guests of additional government charges that will be effective from August 2024.
Infrastructure Charging Rate
Approved by the House of Representatives of Zanzibar, every hotel in Zanzibar is required to pay an Infrastructure Charging Rate. As of 1 August 2024, the rate has been increased from 5 USD to 10 USD per person per night. From 1 August 2024, all guests will be charged an additional 10 USD per person per night, in accordance with the law.
The Infrastructure Charging Rate applies to overnight guests only. It does not apply to day trip visitors.
Blue Economy Levy
All tourists visiting Chumbe Island, effective as of 20 August 2024 (day trip and overnight guests), will be required to pay a Blue Economy Levy on top of our rates, per person, per day.
Costs are as follows:
| Adult foreigner (>15 years of age) | 25 USD |
| Tanzanian residents | 12 USD |
| Tanzanian citizens | 10 USD |
| Children between the ages of 5 and 15 | 10 USD |
| Children under the age of 5 | Free |
This Levy supports the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in implementing wider marine conservation programmes in Zanzibar. CHICOP collects these funds and submits them to the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries on a monthly basis.
We will honour all existing bookings made before the 20th of August at their quoted rate and absorb the Blue Economy Levy for any booking prior to the introduction of the levy.
For bookings made after this time, please be advised that these additional charges will be added to the invoice. We apologize for the inconvenience and are at your disposal in case of any questions.
