Happy World Tourism Day! 🌍 Every year on the 2 Happy World Tourism Day! 🌍

Every year on the 27th of September we celebrate World Tourism Day. This year’s topic is “Tourism and green investment” assessing how we can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by supporting sustainable tourism destinations. 💚

On Chumbe Island we are looking back on 25 years of eco-tourism this year. This includes 25 years of dedication and continued efforts towards a more sustainable tourism industry. 🌿

Everybody can do his or her part and decide to invest in greener tourism destinations. By staying in one of our seven eco-bungalows you are supporting the conservation of our Marine Protected Area and Forest Reserve as well as our environmental education programme for local school children and communities . 🏝

By investing your money in eco-friendly accommodations you are directly contributing to a more sustainable tourism industry and therefore use your money in a way that works for people, planet and prosperity. 🤝🌍🌱

Last week a very special group visited Chumbe duri Last week a very special group visited Chumbe during an environmental education trip. ✨

We welcomed the youngest local students ever on the island and our 12 little guests between 6 and 10 years took part in their first lessons about sustainability and marine protection. 🏝️

They explored our colourful reef during snorkeling, delved into our unique concept of education, conservation, and ecotourism and learned a lot about the species in our forest during a forest walk as well as about sustainability and waste management while exploring one of our eco-bungalows. 🐠

It was a pleasure and a lot of fun having them on the island. 🩷

Happy International Coastal Cleanup Day🌊🌍 T Happy International Coastal Cleanup Day🌊🌍

Together with @jungle_paradise_zanzibar we embarked on a Beach Clean Up this morning at Mbweni Mazizini beach. 🏝️

With the great support of 29 volunteers, including children from Chukwani Secondary school and Chumbe team members, we collected 252 kg trash in 90 min, including 759 plastic bottles, 150 glass bottles and 526 other pieces of trash. 🗑️

We separated and weighed all the trash we collected. The data we will contribute to the annual status report from Ocean Conservancy. 🌊

Thanks to everybody for helping to keep our beaches clean and the team from @jungle_paradise_zanzibar for your support as well as the delicious snacks you offered for all our helping hands. Asanteni sana! 💙 #SeaTheChange

Say hi to our new volunteers! ✨ As part of the Say hi to our new volunteers! ✨

As part of the @dtp_ev volunteer program Natalie & Eli will support our Conservation & Education team during the next year.

Leave them some warm welcoming words in the comments. 🌞

Here is what they have to say about their motivation to join the Chumbe Island team:

”I am Natalie, 22 years old and I’m finishing my bachelor’s degree at the Philipps University Marburg, Germany soon. As a biology enthusiast I’m ready to dive into the mysteries of Chumbe Island Coral Park! From coral reefs to terrestrial ecosystems, I'm excited to explore the biodiversity of this island! With a deep love for the underwater world and a curiosity for all the island's natural wonders, I'm thrilled to join the Chumbe Island team for the next year protecting the biological diversity of this beautiful island.“ 🏝️

”I am Eli, 23 years old and right now I’m finishing my bachelor's degree in ecology and environmental planning at the TU Berlin. As a kid of the alps I had always been passionate about the protection of nature, our all livelyhood. Working for chumbe is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the unique wildlife of Zanzibar and contribute to a flagship project of sustainability.“ 💛

Karibuni Eli & Natalie! We‘re looking forward to having you on board! ☺️
